Developed for Concordia University’s Environmental Health and Safety department, this training prepares students undertaking internships at Concordia or with external organisations to navigate workplace safety.
The course guides learners through recognising hazards, preparing before starting work, responding when unsure, escalating concerns and reporting incidents. It addresses different workplace settings, helping students connect safety responsibilities with situations they may encounter during their internships.
Process and Approach
Content Planning
Organised the training around the internship journey, from preparing for work to recognising and responding to safety concerns. Included physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and psychosocial hazards to reflect the range of environments in which students may work.
Instructional Design
Structured the content around practical questions: What should I know before starting? What should I do when unsure? When should I escalate a concern? How do I respond to an incident?
Used character-led situations and knowledge checks to help learners practise decisions and identify appropriate support.
Development
Built the course in Articulate Storyline 360, incorporating Vyond animations, interactive content and knowledge checks with feedback.
